BABAYAGA, Harp and Saxophone

Tickets £14, U26 £6, Children free accompanied by an adult

Professional Harp and Saxophone Duo BabaYaga performs the first of 3 concerts to be presented in Bo’ness by Linlithgow Arts Guild. The Duo, Karen Dufour and Gwen Sinclair studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and both have their own careers in music. Gwen and Karen enjoy finding music for their unusual combination of instruments and have prepared an interesting and varied programme for the event in Bo’ness.

Both performers have played with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra and the Orchestra of Scottish Opera. Karen is also the soprano sax soloist in the award-winning group “Sax Ecosse” and Gwen who represented Wales at the Lorient Festival Interceltique, has released her first album and also plays with the duo “Tornish”.

Programme includes “Kol Nidrei” by Max Bruch, a piece by Gustav Bumcke (a nineteenth century pioneer of composition for the saxophone trained by Bruch and Engelbert Humperdinck), music by folk musician and flute player Eddie McGuire of the Whistlebinkies, a piece by a former member of Dizzie Gillespie’s Orchestra, and a specially arranged set of movements from Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition”.

Linlithgow Arts Guild has been presenting programmes of top-class classical music for over 50 years, but this will be the first of its events to have been held in Bo’ness. A voluntary organisation, and a registered Scottish charity, its aim is to bring excellence in music performance to the community. The Arts Guild hopes that Bo’ness Town Hall will be the perfect venue for this and for two further concerts which it has arranged, in November and March while Linlithgow Academy Theatre is unavailable and that his event may lead to further concerts in the Town Hall. The Arts Guild is grateful to Falkirk Community Trust for enabling it to use Bo’ness Town Hall.
