Your libraries are here for you

Has it been a while since you used the library? Maybe you've never visited us? Either way, we’d love to see you. Libraries are here for you and they’re friendly, welcoming places, with helpful staff and lots of free things to do.

Many of us can remember our first trip to a library, whether it was visiting somewhere brand new like Denny Library as an adult, or being tiny and climbing up the stairs to the "big" library in Falkirk with a parent.  Our libraries have always been there for you, no matter what age you are or stage of life you’re at.

Life changes, and things change around us so quickly.  New home, job worries, ill health, new baby, starting study, the cost of living increase… the list goes on, but your local library is always here for you. If rising prices are a concern, pop into the library and stay all day. We’re nice and cosy and cost nothing - we no longer charge late fees!

Here’s some of the things you can do in our libraries. Ask at your local library for more information:

Stay for the day

Read a newspaper, grab a book and make yourself comfortable. You can also use our wifi and PCs if you’re a member and you'll find charging points around the library for your phone and other mobile devices.

Help yourself to a hot drink

Libraries are offering free tea, coffee and hot chocolate during these cold winter months. These hot drinks are for anyone, so please pop in and help yourself.

If you are able to give a contribution to the cost, we’d appreciate it, it will help us to keep this free service available for longer.

Borrow books for all ages and interests - without late fines

Picture books, story books, graphic novels, biographies, cookery, hobbies, you name it, we have it. Come in and have a browse. There’s something for the whole family. We have books in large print and on audio CD too.

You can take books home for 4 weeks and, if you want to keep them longer, just let us know. There are no more late fees for overdue books.

Bring your wee one to a Bookbug session

Bookbug sessions are free, weekly, song, rhyme and story sessions for little folk. Come for the stories, stay for the chat with other parents. You may need to book.

Have some family time in our Children’s libraries

We have special areas in the library just for children and we don’t mind if you make a bit of noise! There’s lots of happening for families in libraries, see what’s on.

Have a chat and cuppa at a library group for adults

Listen to poetry and stories over a tea or coffee at a Words for Wellbeing  group, or reminisce with other friendly folk at a Memories Scotland group. Most libraries also have book clubs and craft and knitting groups.

Find a spot to study

Libraries have tables for studying and places to plug in your laptop. You can connect to wifi or use a PC if you’re a member.

Connect instantly to wifi with your school iPad

If you've been issued with an iPad from a Falkirk school, your device will automatically connect to our wifi for as long as you're in the building.

Research your family history

All our library PCs have free access to Ancestry, the family history site, as well as books and lots of local history resources. Find out about library online resources.

Borrow books in languages other than English

We have books in Arabic, Ukrainian, and other languages. Have a browse and ask library staff for help if you need it. You can also use the PressReader app/website for free giving you access to newspapers from around the world.

Download our free Libby and PressReader apps to read on the go

Libby has a huge selection of ebooks and eaudio for all ages. PressReader has magazines and newspapers from around the world. Find them both in your app store, log in with your library card and PIN and away you go! Find out about library online resources

Can’t get to a library? We’ll come to you!

Our Home Library Service  will deliver books to you if you struggle getting out and about.

For more information about any of the above, ask at your local library or browse our webpage.
